This day involves approximately 5 hours of driving in total. Luxor to Edfu is 2 to 2.5 hours on a village road with frequent speed bumps. Please plan for a long, rewarding, unhurried day rather than a quick outing.
Bring your passport — checkpoints on the Luxor–Aswan road may ask to see it.
Both temples are largely open to the sun. Hat, high-factor sunscreen, sunglasses and closed walking shoes. Surfaces are uneven stone.
Modest dress is appreciated though not required; shoulders and knees covered is the comfortable standard.
Mobile phone photography is free at both sites. Professional camera equipment may attract a fee.
The Crocodile Museum at Kom Ombo is air-conditioned — a genuine relief stop mid-afternoon.

Season This is a heat-limited product more than a crowd-limited one, because five hours in a vehicle in an Upper Egyptian summer is genuinely punishing. Average Luxor highs run 23°C in January, 25°C February, 30°C March, 35°C April, 39°C May, 41°C June, 42°C July, 41°C August, 39°C September, 35°C October, 29°C November and 24°C December (Imperial Egypt). November is the outstanding month; October and March offer the best balance of warmth and thinner crowds. December through February is comfortable but coincides with peak cruise density at both temples, so the early-arrival strategy matters most then. May to September, sell this only with an 06:00 departure, a premium vehicle with verified rear air conditioning, and a frank warning at the point of booking. Some agencies simply withdraw the round trip in July and August and offer only the one-way Aswan version — that is a defensible policy and it protects your reviews. Ramadan affects staffing and closing times at both sites; confirm hours with your handler in the two weeks before travel during that period.
